True colors

Artists can color the sky red because they know it's blue. Those of us who aren't artists must color things the way they really are or people might think we're stupid.

Wait for things to mature all by themselves, don't trouble yourself to speed up things. Make the most of life day by day, don't worry for a future that has to arrive, or might not arrive.

Home sweet home

This is the true nature of home — it is the place of Peace; the shelter, not only from all injury, but from all terror, doubt, and division.

Requirements for happiness

To be stupid and selfish and to have good health are the three requirements for happiness, though if stupidity is lacking, the others are useless.

Freedom of speech

Censorship, whatever form it takes, seems to be something monstrous to me, worse than homicide; attempt on thought is a crime of lese-soul. Socrates' death still weighs heavily upon mankind.

My light

Sometimes our light goes out but is blown into flame by another human being. Each of us owes deepest thanks to those who have rekindled this light.

Do you love your work?

Excluding prodigious and individual moments that destiny can give us, love our work, which unfortunately is the privilege of a few, is the best approximation to the real happiness on Earth. But this is a truth that not many people know.

Like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.
The Tempest - William Shakespeare

Our destiny

Our destiny exercises its influence over us even when, as yet, we have not learned its nature: it is our future that lays down the law of our today.

O illumining sun

O Fosterer, O sole Seer, O Ordained, O illumining Sun, O Power of the Father of creatures, marshal thy rays, draw together thy light; the Lustre which is thy most blessed form of all, that in Thee I behold. The Purusha there and there, He am I.

Calm lake

Beauty has its own heavenly language, loftier than the voices of tongues and lips. It is a timeless language, common to all humanity, a calm lake that attracts the singing rivulets to its depth and makes them silent. Only our spirits can understand beauty, or live and grow with it. It puzzles our minds; we are unable to describe it in words; it is a sensation that our eyes cannot see, derived from both the one who observes and the one who is looked upon. Real beauty is a ray which emanates from the holy of holies of the spirit, and illuminates the body, as life comes from the depths of the earth and gives color and scent to a flower. Real beauty lies in the spiritual accord that is called love which can exist between a man and a woman.

Kahlil Gibran
